The Unschooling of America: History Rewritten.

Ever heard the term “ History repeats itself”? Well this time history won’t be repeated, it won’t even be told in it’s original version. Many colleges and schools all over America are not only rewriting history , they are ignoring it, albeit in a very poor and unbelievable manner.

It seems The Board of Ed, has taken to monopolizing not only history, but the access to what students can or cannot read online. We’re not just talking grade school here. We’re talking college age young adults being told they cannot access any legitimate, non sexual LGBT sites such as Equality Maryland, Human Rights Campaign, Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, and many others, both LGBT and Religious based. You can read more about it here.

The ACLU is taking on those who would like to rewrite history. Tennessee, Maryland and other States, who believe in stripping the books of validated history. Texas has just gotten the okay to rewrite its history books. The Governor of Virginia, recently tried to strip slavery from history, but earlier this week, undid his error. It was only after a backlash of torrential protests to the change

So what are we teaching our children? Much is said about kids and what we want our kids to learn. Teaching them that it’s okay to strip away slavery (or any other horrific event) because it’s best not to deal with it, is not the answer. It’s a cop out. A blatant attempt to white wash something that should never be forgotten. I can only imagine the events that will be washed away next. The Holocaust? The Tuskegee Experiments? The Great Migration?

Change can be good, or it can be bad. In this case, its extremely bad. I can only hope that America has indeed learned from it’s mistakes. Will America teach its young to make history, or just  rewrite it? Lets hope it's the former.
