Proposition 8 Ruling Being Decided Tomorrow

The long awaited Prop eight trial ruling is slated to be handed down tomorrow by Judge Vaughn R. Walker, a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Walker became a member of the court in 1989 after his nomination by George H.W. Bush.

The LGBT community has waited breathlessly to see the outcome of the federal lawsuit which seeks to overturn California's Proposition 8, which forbids same-sex marriage in California, approved by voters referendum in 2008, as unconstitutional and discriminatory. The suit is requesting that the federal judge issue an injunction suspending Prop 8, as the law is more commonly known.

Walker is a native of Illinois, graduated from the University of Michigan with his Bachelor's Degree in 1966 and later graduated from Stanford Law School. Lets hope he makes the right decision on behalf of the many hardworking and committed members of the LGBT community.

It is widely speculated that Judge Walker is gay, although he has not addressed the issue publicly. Judge Walker's colleagues  and others  close to him say that his sexual orientation is not a factor in the case. More on that can be read here

There is no doubt that tomorrow will be a highly emotional day for those on both sides of the argument. I’ll post an update as soon as the decision is handed down. Stay tuned!
