Rally To Stop Youth Suicides

As anyone who has been to this site before knows, there has been a disturbing and horrifying outbreak of teen suicides this past month. So many of our gay and LGBT youths have committed suicide because of being bullied. In an attempt to bring more coverage to these unfortunate deaths, and stem the tide of gay youths who feel they have no hope, several LGBT organizations are forming a “Stop the B.S.”  rally in New York. The rally will be tomorrow, Oct. 28th at  Washington Square Park in lower Manhattan.

There has to be a non stop awareness bought to the public by all of us. It doesn’t matter if we’re gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or straight. If we’re bloggers, journalists, politicians, family or friends. We cannot allow our youth to be decimated by hatred, fear and ignorance of what it is to be an LGBT individual. No one, and I mean NO ONE, should have to go through so much bullying and heartache that the only solution is to end their life. It is especially heart rendering when someone that hasn’t even begun to live their life sees no other recourse. We have a right and a duty to defend not only our rights as normal, loving people, but to defend the lives of all of our youths. Please lend your support to this cause in any way you can. If you can’t make it to the rally, please donate to an organization that helps the youth. You can also spread the word by standing up against bullying and homophobia wherever you find it. Write your Senators and urge them to pass the”Safe Schools improvement Act”. You can also call them at 202- 224-3121. The only information needed is your name and where you live. The only words needed are “ Please pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act” It takes less than two minutes.

There will also be a meeting at the LGBT Center in Manhattan that will address the issues our young are facing that is leading so many to become despondent and disillusioned with what seems no way out. There is a way out. It’s called hope and caring. The Center will be holding their meeting on Friday, October 29th, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm. Lets do what we can to help our teens! We had a chance to make it. They deserve the same chance.

  1. That's what's up! Wish I could go, but I'm all the way down here in Bama. I will be there in spirit.

  2. I know you would be there. I'm still getting over being sick, But I'm going to try to get there. Even if you can't get there...there are other ways you can help, that's what counts buddy!

  3. Dear Stone,

I am so elated at how you have continued to educate and inform the LGBT community with your blog! We definitely need more leaders like you and I am truly humbled and honored to be your spouse. I love you!

  4. I'm glad to have a spouse as strong as you fighting by my side! We do it together, just like everything we do. I love you too!
