Ex Marriage Equality Foe Urges You On Video To Not Adopt Hate In Minnesota

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has just suffered another devastating blow. Today one of its best (former) allies, David Blankenhorn, released a two minute video urging Minnesota residents to vote NO on an amendment that would limit marriage to heterosexual couples in that state.

Mr. Blankenhorn, who is the founder and president of  The Institute for American Values, was an expert witness in California’s Prop 8 trial in 2010, which effectively sought to ban marriage rights for same sex couples. He has since refuted the prior error of his ways and in June of this year began to mend them. You can read Mr. Blankenhorn’s article on why he has had a change of heart and mind here.

Following is the video in which he does his best to correct what for many of us has been a thorn in our side; discrimination and civil rights abrogations.

All in all, while I cannot say I am 100% elated with the wording, I will indeed welcome him and anyone who is big enough to realize that love between two consenting adults is a civil right. Perhaps one day soon, NOM’S Margaret Gallagher -Srivastav will realize that she too, is fighting a hopeless battle and will find herself with an empty nest. Or perhaps she will instead continue to put all of her eggs in one basket. Only time will tell.
